Q. Do I have to purchase my eDynamo from Forte?

Yes. To ensure proper configuration and compatibility, eDynamo devices must be purchased through Forte.


Q. How do you know if a merchant is using eDynamo for transactions?

Merchants processing with eDynamo can be identified through their device registration in Forte systems and through transaction metadata sent with each payment.


Q. Is the fallback swipe option required?

Yes. A fallback swipe option must be available in case of EMV error. The number of EMV attempts allowed before fallback is defined by business rules (typically 3 attempts).


Q. Does the eDynamo support convenience fee transactions?

Yes. Merchants configured for convenience fees and split-charge architecture can process transactions with eDynamo, as long as the application submits the correct fee details to Forte.


Q. What is the battery life of the device while connected via Bluetooth?

The eDynamo holds a charge for up to 1 week and supports 1,000+ card swipes between charges.


Q. Is there a low battery indicator?

No. The eDynamo does not provide a dedicated low-battery indicator.


Q. Is the data encrypted at the device?

Yes. All card data is encrypted at the point of entry within the eDynamo, ensuring PCI compliance.


Q. Does the device always encrypt the data?

Yes. All transactions performed through the eDynamo are encrypted at the device level.


Q. What is the warranty on the device?

eDynamo devices purchased through Forte typically include a one-year manufacturer’s warranty. Extended warranty options may be available—please check with your Forte representative.


Q. What platforms are supported?

The eDynamo supports iOS, Android, and Windows platforms and can connect via USB or Bluetooth LE, making it suitable for mobile and desktop environments.



Q. What operating systems and connection types does eDynamo support?

eDynamo supports:

  • Windows (USB): Windows 7, 8.1, and 10

  • Bluetooth LE (iOS, Android, Windows): iOS 7.1+, Android 4.4.2+, and Windows 8.1+ on devices with Bluetooth 4.0+


Q. What is the typical data flow when processing a transaction with eDynamo?

The eDynamo reads magstripe or EMV data, sends it to the POS via USB or Bluetooth, the POS forwards it to Forte, Forte decrypts via Magensa, then sends it for processing, and the response is returned to the POS


Q. What encryption and security standards are employed by eDynamo?

Uses MagneSafe Security Architecture, 3DES with DUKPT key management, encrypted data, tamper detection, tokenization, and dynamic authentication, meeting PCI standards 


Q. Which card brands does the eDynamo support?

Supports Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover for EMV and swipe; Diners Club and China UnionPay are supported for swipe only


Q. Does the eDynamo require any special software on mobile devices?

Yes—on iOS and Android, you need the MagTek Wedget keyboard extension to accept Bluetooth transactions and integrate with Forte Checkout or custom apps. Forte must also register the device in MagTek’s Wedget database.


Q. What compliance certifications does the eDynamo have?

Certified for FCC, CE, UL, ensuring adherence to U.S. and international safety, emission, and environmental standards.


Q. Can the eDynamo be used as a stationary countertop device?

Yes—it supports optional docking (eDynamo Docking Station, P/N 21079809) to mount on a surface and extend the swipe path.


Q. How does the device behave when power is applied via USB?

When connected via USB, the battery is bypassed; the device runs directly from USB power.


Q. How do I reset the device or trigger airplane mode?

For wireless disable (airplane mode), press and hold the reset pushbutton for 10 seconds. To exit airplane mode, press and release it quickly. The blue LED indicates wireless status.


Q. What is the estimated lifespan of the rechargeable battery in transaction terms?

On battery (wireless mode), estimates show:

  • Year 1: ~1,800 magstripe swipes or ~1,250 chip reads

  • Decreases over time

  • In daily terms: ~250 swipes/day or ~180 chip reads/day for ~7 days; turning off the blue LED can extend battery life by ~20%
