V400C Plus Product Guide

Overview

The V400C Plus is a powerful, advanced countertop touchscreen device. It combines the most advanced features, functionality, and performance into an efficient, high-end solution. It has the ability to work as a standalone terminal or to be connected to a POS application over USB (hybrid mode).

The V400C Plus processes EMV (swipe, dip, keyed entry) transactions and accepts NFC/CTLS payment types.

Getting Started

Before you can start testing with the V400C Plus, ensure you've completed the following steps:

  1. Set up your Sandbox or Production Merchant Account with Forte. To set up an account, complete the following steps:

  2. Procure a V400C Plus by placing an order at Forte's Equipment store.
  3. Procure the following cables and accessories depending on your configuration:
    • V400C Plus Cable and Connector (Semi-Hybrid Only)
    • Ethernet Cable
    • Receipt Paper

NOTE: All accessories except for the Ethernet cable should be ordered from Forte's Equipment store.

Supported Use Cases

  • Process transactions using the V400C Standalone terminal.
  • Process transactions on a POS system (Hybrid mode).
  • Process transactions in a web-based application (FCO/SWP) on a POS system 
    • Ability to print receipt on Star Printer for SWP.
  • Ability to custom integrate on a Windows application and Native application.
    • Ability to print custom receipts.

Dataflow Diagrams

Standalone Mode

Devices in standalone mode only accept inputs that are swiped, dipped, or manually entered on the device.

  1. The user dips, swipes, or manually enters the card details on the V400C Plus.
  2. The V400C Plus sends the transaction message to Forte's TP.
  3. The TP reaches out to the Merchant's Credit Card Processor.
  4. The Credit Card Processor responds to the TP with an authorization response. 
  5. The TP relays the response to the Terminal.
  6. The Terminal lets the user know if the transaction was approved/declined.

Semi-Hybrid Mode

Devices in semi-hybrid mode wait for a transaction to be initiated by a web-based point-of-sale application, such as Forte Checkout or Secure Web Pay Checkout.

  1. The user enters the transaction information in the web-based application (FCO/SWP) of the POS system.
  2. The POS system, using the device handler, transfers the information to the V400C Plus.
    • The V400C Plus displays the amount sent from the POS and prompts the customer to present his/her card.
    • The user dips, swipes, or manually enters the card details on the V400C Plus.
  3. The V400C Plus sends the transaction message to Forte's TP.
  4. The TP reaches out to the Merchant's Credit Card Processor.
  5. The Credit Card Processor responds to the TP with an Authorization response.
  6. The TP relays the response to the Terminal.
  7. The terminal sends the response to the POS system, using the Device Handler.
  8. te POS system lets the user know if the transaction was approved/declined. 

Native-Hybrid Mode

  1. The user enters the transaction information in the POS system.
    • Native applications that are written in .NET for Windows can use Forte's desktop device handler. Device Handler Desktop Setup Files.
    • Web based POS applications. 

    • Merchants can also use their custom version of Device Handler.

  2. The POS system transfers the information to the V400C Plus.

    • The user dips, swipes or manually enters the card details on V400C.

    • The V400C displays the amount sent from the POS and prompts the customer to present their card.

  3. The V400C sends the transaction message to Forte's TP.
  4. The TP reaches out to the Merchant's Credit Card Processor.
  5. The Credit Card Processor responds to the TP with the Authorization response.
  6. The TP relays the response to the Terminal.
  7. The terminal sends the response to the POS system, using the Device Handler.
  8. The POS system lets the user know if the transaction was approved/declined.

Security and Compliance

  • PCI PTS 5.X Approved - The Payment Card Industry PIN Transaction Security (PCI PTS) are technical and operational standards that are set to protect cardholder data. The standards apply to all organizations that store, process, or transmit cardholder data. 
  • AES DUKPT - A Derived Unique Key Per Transaction (DUKPT) allows financial institutions to use the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm in a secure and interoperable way to provide confidentiality through encryption of PINs and cardholder data, and transaction authentication.
  • SRED - Secure Reading and Exchange of Data module ensures that cardholder account data is protected at the point of acceptance, which will assist in meeting the required security considerations of the wider point-to-point security process.

Ordering the Device (Merchants)

  1. Merchants can order the device from http://equipment.forte.net/. The V400C Plus can be found under the Equipment > EMV Terminals. If needed, merchants can choose to buy accessories (e.g., cables, receipt paper, etc.) with the terminal or just the terminal.
  2. Once the merchant decides on the number of terminals and any cables needed, add the products to the cart. 
  3. To know the shipping options and rate before moving on to checkout, use the (optional) Calculate Shipping Form.
  4. Merchants are required to enter the following information to place an order:
    • Billing Information
      • First Name
      • Last Name
      • Merchant Name, Address, City, Country, State, and Zip Code
      • Phone Number and Email Address
    • Shipping Information
      • Merchants can choose to ship to the billing address or add a different/new address
      • Merchants can also choose to select a different shipping option.
    • Payment Information
      • Merchants can pay using a credit card or can choose to be invoiced.
      • Merchants are also required to enter the following Merchant Details:
        • Merchant ID for billing and account tracking
        • A list of Merchant IDs that should be configured on the terminal.
    • Order Comments (optional): Merchants can add any special instructions to the order.

Q: What Forte products will support the V400C Plus?

A: Initially, Forte Checkout and Secure Web will support the device. In future launches, Dex and BillPay will support the V400C Plus.

Q: Does Forte support Sandbox at launch?

A: Yes and merchants can also use a dedicated Sandbox environment.

Q: Does the V400C Plus support EMV transactions?

A: The V400C Plus supports EMV transactions for Worldpay (Vantiv) merchants and, in the near future, Wells Fargo merchants.

Q: What payment options are available to merchants not processing on Worldpay (Vantiv)?

A: Keyed and swiped transactions are supported by non-Worldpay processors. The terminal may be set to swipe only for processor others Worldpay (Vantiv).

Q: Which mobile wallets does the V400C Plus support?

A: Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Q: Does the V400C Plus support Visa Debit and Procurement payment options on Forte Checkout?

A: Yes, both options are available.  Whenever Forte Checkout is set up to process through the V400C Plus for a convenience fee merchant, the "This is a Procurement Card" check box will be there. The "This is a VISA Debit card" check box will only be displayed for convenience fee merchants that participate in the Visa Tax program.

Q: How many Merchant IDs (MIDs)/Location IDs can be loaded onto the V400C Plus?

A: The V400C Plus supports up to 10 MIDs/Location IDs.

Q: What credit card methods does the V400C Plus support?

A: EMV chip (Vantiv merchants only), Swipe, Keyed, and Contactless transaction are all supported.

Q: What cards can I use with the V400C Plus?

A: The V400C Plus supports Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.

Q: Which procurement cards can I use with the V400C Plus:

A: The V400C Plus supports Visa, Mastercard, and American Express procurement cards.

Q: How can I identify a transaction that originated from a V400C Plus?

A: The terminal passes a Source field that indicates if the transaction originated on a V400C Plus. A separate "Active Terminal Report" will be created for V400C Plus devices.

Q: What transaction reports will be available at launch?

A: Dex and VT will provide the same transaction report being used to support VX520 devices.

Q: Will voids be supported by the V400C Plus?

A: Yes, the V400C Plus can process void transactions.

Q: Will the V400C Plus support split-charge transactions?

A: Split-charge transactions will not be supported for wallets.

Q: What are the equipment costs for the V400C Plus?

A: The standard price for the device is $299. The device with cable is $323.95. Refer to Forte's Equipment page for more pricing information.

Q: Can I use the VX520 cable/adapter with the V400C Plus?

A: No, the V400C requires a different adapter, but uses the same cable as the VX520 device. The adapter for the V400C Plus is an RS-232 male-to-Mini-USB female adapter. 

Q: How can I identify a transaction that originated from a V400C Plus?

The terminal passes a Source field that tells us if the transaction originated on a V400C Plus.

Q: What type of receipt paper does the V400C Plus use?

A: The thermal paper for V400c is the same size as the VX520: 2.25in width x 85ft length.

Q: How do I change the receipt information?

A: Contact Forte Customer Support at 866.290.5400.

Q: When is the convenience fee displayed?

A: The convenience fee is displayed on the POS application before selecting the Read Card option.

Q: How do we ensure a Visa Debit card is charged the correct fee?

A: If the user does not select the Visa Debit card option, the payment will be declined. The VX520 functions in the same manner.

Q: Does the V400C support Wi-Fi connectivity? 

A: Yes, and connecting via Wi-Fi does not require the adapter/cable.

Q: How many customized fields are available?  
A: 2

Q: What processors support the V400C Plus?

World Pay (Vantiv) is now supported. First Data (Wells Fargo) will be supported in the future.

Q: Does the V400C Plus support AVS checks?

A: Yes AVS are supported by the V400C Plus.

Q: Does the “Total” in the Summary report and Detail report include the Convenience fee?

A: Yes, the “Total” in both the Summary report and Detail report will include the convenience fee in the merchant is set up for a convenience fee. 

Q: How can I find the terminal's configuration?

A: To find the terminal’s configuration:

  1. Press 1-5-9 at the same time. 
  2. Select Control Panel > System Info

Q: How to verify if device is connected to the WiFi ?

A: To verify if the device is connected to the WiFi:

  1. Press 1-5-9.
  2. Select Com Control.
  3. Verify if WiFi is showing up.

Q: How to switch between Ethernet and WiFI ? 

A: To connect the terminal via Ethernet or WiFi, please follow the instructions on Set up a V400C Plus . If you already have a connection type selected, reach out to our Integration Team at EquipmentQuestions@forte.net or 866-290-5400 Option 5 (Tech Support Queue) then Option 4 (Equipment Queue) to swtich between Ethernet and WiFi.
