Support Services

Forte's Device Handler gives Partners the ability to support the EMV payment standard. What is EMV? EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) is a technical standard that provides stronger card security and cardholder validation at point-of-sale (POS) devices through the use of chip-based cards and enhanced authentication technology. Simply put, the EMV standard helps protect consumers and merchants from the high costs that come with data breaches and counterfeit card fraud.

Forte's preferred EMV terminal is the Verifone VX520. The VX520 provides integrated NFC/contactless payment capabilities with PCI PTS 3.x certification as well as optional add-on services like end-to-end encryption (E2EE) and an expandable memory (contact your Forte Sales representative to add these features). Connecting your POS setup to the VX520 is simple and relatively painless with Device Handler. Device Handler supports a variety of terminal integrations, including standalone POS terminals, terminals integrated to the your native POS application (both Windows- and browser-based), and terminals integrated with Forte's POS solutions like Forte Checkout and Secure Web Pay Checkout.

Forte supports two different versions of Device Handler for merchants on the VANTIV platform:

  • DLL - This version connects your native Windows POS application directly to the VX520 via a dynamic link library (DLL), which you configure and integrate using the parameters of the Advanced Gateway Interface API.
  • Web - This version connects your browser-based POS applications, including Forte products like Forte Checkout and Secure Web Pay Checkout, via a local service that you install on the client machine. It also uses the parameters of the Advanced Gateway Interface API and can be used with either a PC or Mac.
